International Recognition for Wigley & CompanyChambers have released their well-respected 2009 Guide, listing the top law firms and lawyers in 175 countries. For twenty years, Chambers has published the leading directories of the legal profession. Chambers awards honor outstanding law firms and legal professionals around the world. Their awards reflect both pre-eminence in key practice areas, and achievements over the last 12 months, including notable work, strategic growth, excellence in client service, and contribution to the legal profession. Wigley & Company are delighted to be recognised in the 2009 Guide. Their review reads: "This specialist ICT firm boasts expertise across a broad spectrum of TMT issues and is considered particularly outstanding for regulatory and public policy work. Public law accounts for the majority of this firm’s caseload, and it recently acted in a major inquiry involving the country’s District Health Boards, an instruction arising from the firm’s previous work for the Ministry of Health. Nationwide trends have accounted for a recent drop in outsourcing work, but this has allowed the team to develop its international profile with several outsourcing-related cases across Europe. Michael Wigley attracts praise as a great person to work with - highly enthusiastic and dedicated to his work. Acknowledged by peers as the single best TMT lobbyist in New Zealand, he specialises in public sector procurement and is frequently instructed by the New Zealand government." Can you help us thank others? We’re trying to find corporate lawyers that do great work out in the community so they can be recognised for their all-important contribution (with $7,000 available to give to the good cause of their choice). The award is the CLANZ-Wigley & Company Community Contribution Award 2009, organised through the Corporate Lawyers Association of NZ (CLANZ) - an excellent professional body for corporate lawyers. It’s hard, however, to persuade these lawyers to apply for the award. They quietly just get on and do great community work beyond their “day jobs”. So we hope you might put their names forward. The community work doesn’t have to be legal services: it could include, for example, assisting with community law centres, lobbying on behalf of interest groups, helping not-for-profits, charities work, supporting arts, cultural, religious, sports and youth groups. The list is endless. Do you know of any corporate lawyers who fit the bill for the award? Feel free to contact us on info@wigleylaw.com or (04) 499 1843, or find the nomination form at the CLANZ website. Nominations need to be in by Wednesday 22nd April 2009.
